New Website
New Radiant Light Website: Over 5,000 Images by Catholic Artist Elizabeth Wang
This is a copy of the Press Release that has recently been issued to various Catholic newspapers and websites
The new Radiant Light website has been launched for the new liturgical year. It includes over 5,000 images by Catholic artist Elizabeth Wang. They are arranged in galleries which deal with themes such as the Holy Trinity, the sacraments, the Mass, the Rosary, prayer, holiness, mission, and the love of Christ. Taken together, they form a visual catechism for a visual age. The website can be found at www.radiantlight.org.uk
All the images are available as free downloads, for use in schools, parishes, catechesis and personal meditation. They are fully searchable by topic (e.g. ‘Mary’, ‘suffering’, ‘heaven’), and there is a list of over 600 keywords covering every aspect of the Catholic faith. Each picture has a brief commentary by the artist to explain the image itself and the theology behind it.
The new website will be especially useful for those seeking visual resources for the Year of Faith, and for the new liturgical year ahead. It should inspire and encourage those searching for a deeper personal faith. It includes much loved images like ‘Christ is the Bridge to Heaven’ and ‘Hanging over the Abyss’, together with thousands of images that have never been seen before.
Mgr Keith Barltrop writes that Elizabeth Wang’s art “continues the great tradition of the Church from earliest days in using contemporary art to instruct us about God's truth and attract us to his beauty, leading us on to heartfelt adoration and to awareness of his being with us and all people from moment to moment”.
Her work was praised in Bible Alive: “Her art is rich in colour, powerful in image and moving in the message it conveys. Elizabeth’s work is rather like a picture catechism presenting the basic truths of faith”. And the Fr Aidan Nichols writes: “I have been very impressed by the way Elizabeth Wang seeks to expand people’s sense of the mystery of the Eucharist in all its dimensions”
Elizabeth Wang was born in 1942 and received into the Catholic Church in 1968. She is an artist, homemaker and mother who now spends time writing, painting and speaking about prayer and the Catholic Faith. She has been involved in the life of her home parish of Our Lady of Lourdes, Harpenden, particularly as a catechist.
She has exhibited at the Royal Academy, and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. She has had solo exhibitions of religious work at Westminster Cathedral, the Bar Convent Museum (York), Oxford University Catholic Chaplaincy, and at various schools and parishes throughout the country. Her artwork has been used recently by presenter Frances Hogan on EWTN television, and installed in the Catholic chapel at Wormwood Scrubs prison. Many of her paintings are published side-by-side with her religious writings.
Radiant Light is a movement within the Catholic Church. It seeks to encourage people to grow in holiness by believing and living the Catholic faith in its fullness. Jesus Christ Himself is ‘the radiant light of God's glory’ (Heb 1:3).
