Jesus is truly Mary's Son; all that he has, in His sacred humanity, comes from His Holy Mother. He could not give us His gifts if Mary had not first consented to be His Mother.

The Annunciation
God, through His Holy Spirit's action, caused the Word to enter Mary's life, by her consent, and to take flesh in her womb.

Our Lady of Sorrows: Our Blessed Lady showed reverence for God, in love, obedience and submission, not only when approached as a teenager by an Angel, but throughout her life, and beneath the Cross. As she welcomed God's Will in every circumstance, so should we welcome it, in small things and great.
The generous response of the Blessed Virgin to God's invitation to become the Mother of God brought her much suffering - but also tremendous joy and glory. And so it is with us, when we respond to God's call, and allow Him to lead us through trials to bliss and intimacy.
The Angel said to Mary: "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus." And Mary said: "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord."

Our Blessed Lady, who is not Divine, was chosen for a special role. In consenting to conceive within her womb the very Son of God, she allowed Him to show out more clearly than ever His Divine nature: His love, compassion, willingness to share our lives from beginning to end, and His mercy and tenderness. Christ showed out, on earth, as man, what the Triune God is like: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one all-holy Creator and Redeemer.
