What an example of humility was given to us by Christ on Calvary, where our God showed only patience, charity and forgiveness.

We who pray with Christ (at Holy Mass) are making the offering which He made on Calvary, offering the Sacrifice, pleading for all.

One who chooses to ignore Christ is turning His back on the bleeding figure who suffered death for our sins.

As Abraham stood ready to obey God's will, so Our Lady stood to make Her offering, as we can, on our own 'Calvaries'.

Christ is glorified by this miniature 'Calvary', as by any suitable model, image or statue for celebrating faith.

Though we can see hints of God's glory in nature, we can only 'touch' God in and through Christ. Sin made a gigantic barrier - like a vast curtain across the skies - between Heaven and earth. Only Christ's Cross has torn away that barrier. Christ has made a way through: the Way that we find when we reach Christ and Calvary at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

It was on Calvary that Christ made a bridge by which all who come to Him can reach Heaven; and it is at Mass that we find Calvary.

God showed me that our three priests who offered the Holy Sacrifice were standing around the cross on which Christ died.

I saw a child who unwrapped a precious object. I must 'unwrap' the Mass for other people, to reveal the 'heart' of it. It is a living memorial of Calvary's offering: the very same sacrifice, now sacramentally re-presented.

Someone who adores Christ in the Mass and longs to do His work can remain in spirit beside the Cross all day, with Calvary's offering in mind - making at each moment, with Christ, expressions of love to the Father, thanks for everything good, reparation for sins (patiently accepting trials), prayers for help and salvation for individuals, and prayer for the Church.

If I remain always at the foot of the cross, I'll remember that all the graces I now enjoy were won through Christ's lonely torment on Calvary. How can I then become proud or self-satisfied?
