God showed me that our three priests who offered the Holy Sacrifice were standing around the cross on which Christ died.

The Cross on which Christ died is a worthy and apt symbol for Christians: a symbol of the love which brought Him to earth, even to death, for our sakes; and of His power. He Who rose from the grave can raise us up as well.

Someone who adores Christ in the Mass and longs to do His work can remain in spirit beside the Cross all day, with Calvary's offering in mind - making at each moment, with Christ, expressions of love to the Father, thanks for everything good, reparation for sins (patiently accepting trials), prayers for help and salvation for individuals, and prayer for the Church.

If I remain always at the foot of the cross, I'll remember that all the graces I now enjoy were won through Christ's lonely torment on Calvary. How can I then become proud or self-satisfied?

That is why the Holy Eucharist is a pledge of future glory as well as a sacrifice for sin. To belong to Christ and to receive Him in Holy Communion is a foretaste of the union and communion that we can enjoy for all Eternity if we remains faithful.

We can see Our Lady kneeling near the foot of the Cross, her son's head in her lap, His body spread before her, as she cradles Him. If we remain faithful we can hope to meet, one day, the Saviour Who rose to life again, and the Holy Mother who bore Him.

There is only one Way across the dark abyss which separates earth from Heaven. Christ has made that Way, through His Incarnation, and from all that followed in His earthly life.

Time and space seem to vanish at the Mass, after the consecration. We are present to the once-for-all Sacrifice offered on our altar in a sacramental manner. We pray with and through Christ to our Heavenly Father, as if at the foot of the cross, with Mary, our Mother.

Christ made an amazing 'descent' from Heaven, as if across a vast distance, leaving the glory and holiness of Heaven to become man, to live amongst us, to die and rise again to save us from our sins, and to open Heaven's 'door' to all who believe in Him.
