It is tragic that so many people are trapped underground in natural disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes; yet the worst disaster is to become trapped in the deep caverns of Hell, for Eternity, as are all who do not reach out to help the young and needy but rather prey on them: by child abuse, abortion, sex trafficking, pornographers, people who enjoy sadistic pornography, and others - if these sinners do not repent before they die.
When people who have never read a serious book about Catholicism complain about episodes of Catholic history and hate the Church, it is best not to argue about history but to say: 'Look at the Church, as she is': the unique unity in Faith, government and worship, unique in handing on the body of truths, in helping the sick and needy, defending lives, including the unborn, inspiring artists, architects, composers, promoting education, all with confidence in God. Outside the Catholic Church people do not have such clear teaching. It is the one Church founded by Jesus Christ, Who still guides her, in union with the Father, and the Holy Spirit.
Whether a man cruelly murders an innocent woman in order to steal her valuables without a witness, or kills an innocent baby currently developing in its mother's womb, an act has been done which is barbaric in God the Father's sight, and deserving of punishment - even if the circumstances vary.
When abortion was always a crime in English law, it was sometimes judged compassionately by those who knew of a woman's difficult circumstances, yet it was true, all the same, that a death had occurred. It is an outrage, in God's sight, that some politicians today support the killing of unborn babies, and have made it easier to do, and are applauded for it.
If we reflect, we will remember that Christ was an innocent victim, in a long-ago earthly life. Innocent victims of abortion today deserve, of us, fervent prayer and brave words, so that Christ, by His almighty power, will banish this barbaric practice.
It is a dreadful thing, in God's sight, that elected law-makers can, of their free will, vote for abortion, that is, make possible the killing of tiny babies in the womb. They are as blameworthy, in God's eyes, as people who carry out those barbaric procedures.
A man who provides a gun for a murderer, and shows him how to use it, to shoot a victim, shares responsibility for that terrible act, just as a member of Parliament who votes for continued abortions, or greater numbers of abortions, is as blameworthy, in God's sight, as the people who carry out those dreadful procedures.
Just as a consecrated Host, which seems so insignificant, is in fact the Presence of Christ the Saviour, so a tiny embryo, which seems so insignificant, is already a living person who will grow into adult life.
What would be the answer, if every woman seeking an abortion were to be asked: "Are you willing to press this button, deliberately to kill your unborn child?" A tiny baby is a living person who does not deserve execution.
Human life is a precious gift from God, and unborn children are not objects to be thrown away like rubbish
It is strange that, in an era when a Government claims to want to save lives, and puts up countless adverts about ways in which to avoid unnecessary death, it promotes, funds and approves of abortion; and many people even object to inoffensive posters which are about 'life' issues.
Aborted babies are disposed of without even a decent burial, no different from the rubbish heaped into landfill sites.
It has always been true; and it is true today: that a person who turns to God in sorrow for her sins, repenting, is forgiven. This is true even of grave sins such as abortion. People who receive forgiveness in the sacrament of Penance can be certain that their sins have been wiped away, and their souls made beautiful in God's sight.
A woman who turns to God and repents of her abortion can find forgiveness and peace, in the knowledge that her child is safe in God's loving care
If we want to look at the factors by which a civilisation is destroyed, and focus on practical matters, a society which practices routine abortion has few children living, does not replace the generation of elderly people who are dying, and has too few citizens to maintain the running of society.
Christ looks on with horror as unborn babies are killed. Those who are merciless towards their fellow-creatures will find themselves alienated from God when they die - unless they first repent. This is especially true of those who mercilessly work to make abortion more easily available. Christ said, "The judgements you give are the judgements you will get"
Abortion, here in the UK, kills six hundred babies each day. It is a national tragedy, that a barbaric practice such as abortion is commonplace in England, funded partly by the National Health Service, permitted by legislation, carried out by doctors upon women who have chosen to have their unborn babies killed: swept out of sight, because inconvenient.
The gift of life comes from Heaven, as God gives an immortal soul to each person conceived on earth. But Satan is at work to destroy God's gifts. Disguised as a doctor, he kills in the womb, by the hands of doctors, millions of unborn babies whose mothers have tragically given permission for their own tiny infants to be destroyed.
God sends down His gifts from Heaven, including the gift of life, in newly-conceived babies, each of whom has an immortal soul. Yet Satan has engineered the whole abortion business, and many women who are dismayed to be pregnant ignore God's laws and seek a doctor who will kill and expel the child: a barbaric act.
Christ sends down new life from Heaven: the living souls of babies, which are sometimes then rejected by their own mothers, and killed in the womb by Doctors who agree with this practice. Satan boasts, as he points towards parliament, that many of it's members are as guilty as those who do abortions, since legislators voted for it to be made legal.
