We have a living relationship with the Saints who have died, so we should talk with them, ask for their prayers, treasure their feast days, honour them through their relics and shrines and statues, and follow their example.
We would be surprised if we could see how grateful the Saints and Angels are, when we greet and honour them in church.
Many people would rush to see Jesus, if He were to appear in the local high street. And no-one should condemn as 'over-pious' those Catholics who love to meet Jesus at the tabernacle, in extra visits to church.
We need a crucifix as a 'template' for our own lives - not to make us love pain or suffering, but so we'll imitate Christ in His patient acceptance of His Father's Will
The whole life of the Church follows in Christ's 'wake' as part of God's eternal plan: the Apostles and Saints, a visible Church, Catholic life and culture and devotions. All of this was in the mind of God.

Someone who searches avidly for new devotions is like a fish which searches for food, day after day, on the Barrier Reef. We need spiritual 'food', but also to make time for our everyday duties, and for care of our neighbour.
Christ's Holy Mother Mary deserved to be honoured; and there should be visible reminders for us, in our churches, that she who is in Heaven now, praying for us, is God the Father's holy daughter, the Spirit's faithful spouse, the Son's holy and loveable Mother, and our mother too.
As we enter the church, Christ greets us from the tabernacle. He delights especially when we love and honour His Mother on her feast days.

We should be aware of the importance and value of popular devotions.
Christ is deeply touched whenever we take care to show reverence by our gestures and thoughts; honouring Him by the Sign of the Cross; by kneeling, if we can; by being alert in prayer, by kissing sacred objects.
As we pray the Rosary, the Saints join in the first half of the 'Hail Mary', praying it with us to honour Our Lady and to glorify her son, Jesus.

It would cause an upsurge of devotion were the many dusty, neglected altars to be renovated, so that Masses might be celebrated upon them again, as during the past many hundreds of years.
