By my consent to Him, Christ made my heart and soul His own domain.
It was a glimpse of true freedom, that one could be weak and ill-clothed, yet content to accept Christ's Will.
A soul freely offered to God is like a channel used by Him to convey His glory and grace to others; it is 'broken' in sacrifice.
Purified souls now walk on a flower-carpet, in joy and simplicity, freed from all cynicism and hard-heartedness.
At a word of confession and contrition, the soul soars into the heart of God, freed from its chains of sin or silliness.
The Church's rules and recommendations are like the twigs which support a nest where a chick can be fed in security, freedom and joy, as by God.
In His unchanging Will, God is like the perpetual and steady descent of a vast forest waterfall. Just as the water cannot suddenly flow upwards or sideways, so God never changes in His desire to offer us true life, true freedom, forgiveness and holiness, if we will accept them.
Those men called to the Priesthood who surrender family life with reluctance, as a sacrifice wrung from them by circumstance, are never as happy as those who are overwhelmed by the knowledge of God's love for them and see beauty and freedom in this total self-giving to God and His Will in imitation of Christ.

Someone who lives in a state of grace, with no aspect of his life 'hidden' from God's gaze through shame or self-will, is as if living underneath an umbrella of light, doing one good thing after another in the true freedom of the children of God.
As well as ensuring reverent, beautiful worship of God, Christianity, properly practiced, makes society flower, with mutual help, care for the needy, beauty, joy, human advancement and freedom.
People who are trapped in their sins have no lasting happiness. Those who are enslaved by particular sins or bad habits have confined themselves to even greater isolation and futility. All need the 'outside help' which is God's grace, to achieve freedom and true joy.
A person trapped in sin is like a prisoner in a cage, with the key on the inside. We must speak with pity to him - yet also encourage such a person to set himself free, with the help of God, by giving up his sins.

In becoming man, the Son of God chose to share our life on earth, and our sufferings - though He is without sin. And He sacrificed His life so that we could be freed from sin and from the fear of death.
Each friend of Christ must make a journey before he can reach Heaven. By Baptism we cross a chasm, and are freed from sin. Then there are deserts and mountain ranges, and other features, before we reach the glorious 'City' on the horizon.
Just as some people can be trapped at the bottom of a deep cavern in the jungle, so we become alienated from God through sin. But if we turn upwards towards the light offered by Christ, he can lift us into freedom.
A happy obedient child on holiday has the freedom to do one good thing or another on the beach. She would not think of playing in a dirty ditch, or shouting at her parents. If we are happy and obedient we enjoy our freedom as God's children to choose to do one good task or another, and it does not occur to us to do deliberate evil.
It is a terrible thing, that people in many parts of the world are enslaved by other human beings. The worst sort of slavery, however, in God's sight, is enslavement to sin, because, in it, people are in danger of losing not just earthly joy but Eternal happiness, if they do not repent.
Each person on earth is given the choice: whether to serve God or to ignore Him. Those who refuse to live according to God's laws offer a great insult to their Creator; and if they persist in that state until death, it will be as if each is freely choosing to hurl himself away from his Creator, and so away from all love, light and joy.
