Christians have a clear 'view' of life's purpose, and life's Way, and life's goal. Those without Christian faith and the truths of faith are like searchers in a helicopter in the dark, who can only see what is lit up in a small pool of light in each successive moment. But they cannot see the Way, or the goal.

Many people stroll around, ready to sin, saying 'There is no Hell'; but by our choices we move towards Heaven or Hell.

Where is Everyone? Christ 'wonders', so to speak (though He knows everything) - Where are all those followers of His who profess to love Him? Yet many can't be bothered to meet Him at Mass, whilst others have not yet been told that He is Really, substantially Present here in the Blessed Sacrament.

Many Catholics have no idea of what is really happening at Mass. It is tragic that so many children say that they are bored at Mass. Not having been instructed about the Holy Sacrifice of Christ, they are ignorant of the fact that Christ is truly Present amongst us, praising the Father of Light in the presence of the whole Church. We pray with the Saints and the Holy Souls, and with the Holy Angels.

Those who destroy infants in their mothers' wombs, or who discard tiny embryos, are not only acting against those living human beings, but offending God. They act against Him, the giver of life, when they discard miniature living persons as so much rubbish, even if they do not realise how great is the wrong they do.

It is possible for someone to oppose God's wishes, through ignorance and muddled thinking, and not to be blameworthy. But it is a sad thing when an adult Catholic looks at two thousand years of constant teaching on a serious moral matter, and says to God - by her choices - "I believe I am right, and you and your Popes, Bishops, Saints and theologians are wrong, and I am going to use contraceptives".

If we are careless or uncharitable in some of our 'patterns' of thinking, speaking or acting, or just copy ways of behaviour picked up from our childhood models - we may have no malice, but still act in foolish ways, not realising how little we resemble Christ.

Most Catholics who disobey the moral law on contraception, for example, brush away their feelings of guilt. Few can plead total ignorance of the teaching of the Church.

Through prayer, especially through the cycle of the Church's Liturgical prayer, we can enter the Mysteries of Christ's earthly life. At each of the feasts of His life we can address Him in that event, and benefit from the graces He won for us, in it. Simple people who pray to the 'infant Jesus' have an instinctive knowledge of this truth.
