Christ is radiant and joyful in His Risen Life
Christ is radiant and joyful in His Risen Life
Our life on Earth is lived in darkness, as though in the basement of a huge palace; the spiritual stairs lead to Heaven.
Whenever Mass is clebrated in our country, it's as if Calvary appears at the heart of England. Those of us who did not live with Christ in his lifetime or stand beside his Cross in history can nevertheless unite ourselves with Him and with His once-for-all Sacrifice, as it is re-presented at every Mass, where Christ is truly Present, praying on our behalf.
As when a hollow is scooped in the sand, the ocean's wave pours in, so Divine life pours into a soul who by loving is 'emptied' to receive it.
This is what we see in a tender-hearted gaze: sadness, love and grief for another in need, which call from us practical help and gentle consolation.

The painful purification which souls undergo in this life (if they consent) is like the pains of Purgatory, before 'birth' into Heaven.
Prayer, like a powerful injection in a weak organ, brings warmth, life and renewal to every part.
Through faith, baptism, and loving obedience, we share in the life of the Holy Trinity
In real union with God, a new way of life stretches ahead, like a 'sacred way', or a sunlit valley high above the dark plain.
When the 'vessel' which is the heart wholly opens to God's will, it is purified. His divine life and love and wisdom are poured in.
At the consecration, through Christ's Presence, it is as if a way has been made in the 'cliff-face' of earthly life, and Heaven's glory shines through.
God is at work even when we are physically frail - He can slowly 'detach' us from life, as a backing fabric is slowly removed from a piece of tape, to prepare us for Heaven.
The greatest joy in earthly life would be to live wholly united to Christ, at the summit of union, on the mountain of sanctity.
One who loves and serves Christ can 'touch' every moment of Christ's life, and can share even His journeys across the wilderness.
As a gardener waits confidently for buds to open at just the right time, so must I await the fruition of God's work in my life.
Some, who are reluctant to follow Christ, point to life's map, demanding that Christ lead them only over easy terrain.
By God's grace, each day can be spent in Christ's company, as if living half-way into Heaven, throughout each moment of work and prayer.
