Christ assured me that if I made a hat to wear to my grandson's Baptism I would honour Christ by obediently covering my hair in church, honour the occasion by special dress, and honour my husband by looking so smart!
The whole purpose of life on earth is to love and serve God our Creator, before sharing His life in Eternity. Which of two women does the Will of God? One who cherished the child she conceived, given life by God, or the one who disposes of her own infant, refusing to let it live? To kill a baby, whether after its birth, or in a clinic before its birth, is to act against God and His Will.
How much children suffer, when the matter of abortion arises in conversation or on television today! It is no small matter, when children learn from their mother that she has destroyed an earlier sibling - however grave her excuse. What a dreadful thing for them to learn, that their mother has chosen to end one human life, at an early stage. She sat in judgement on a member of the family, and awarded the death penalty.
How unjust that pharmacists are asked to act against life by dispensing abortifacient drugs
In societies where abortion is allowed in grave circumstances, it then becomes common-place, then is claimed as a 'right'; and this leads to the gradual approval of further types of killing, such as withdrawal of sustenance from the sick, doctor-assisted suicide, or even calls for the infanticide of children handicapped or sick. It can even lead to pro-life supporters being called religious fanatics.
When abortion is allowed of physically imperfect or malformed babies it sends the message to society that a disabled person can expect to have neither a happy nor a useful life, or that every disability places an intolerable burden on relations, or on society as a whole, and that bodily health is the most important aspect of human existence.
Extreme feminism has led society to deify women, so that their decisions can mean life or death for their unborn children.
The sin of rape is repulsive in God's sight, and rightly punished as a criminal act. Yet the victim can choose to hate or to love. She can hate the rapist, and, out of fear and panic, destroy a child conceived; or she can look with love upon the innocent child, and be merciful, and in sparing his life, support new life and not more violence and death.
What the Lord sees, amidst the muddle of a sewing kit, or the tools of a well-loved trade, are an enthusiasm for life, a delight in the skills He gives us, and a desire to enhance our lives on earth as sociable, being willing to work, to make efforts to improve matters or to create beautiful garments or objects.
From the heart of the Godhead, from the Three Divine Persons, light and grace fall upon a little child below. This is an image of the power of Baptism. The new life given from God in this holy sacrament is a share in the life of God - and a promise of Heaven for those who remain faithful. This is the greatest gift, after life itself. The Three Divine Persons now dwell within the soul of the Baptised.
Millions of babies have been killed in the womb, and have been denied not only life on earth but also Baptism. They do not become saints in glory, but they are in God's care - as if tiny clouds which float peacefully in front of heaven.
Some people adore their pets, or campaign to preserve endangered species, but often have no concern for human life which is endangered in the womb.
The Lord said that of all the millions of souls created, only a few love and serve Him, and persevere to the end, proving worthy of the gift of Heaven. Babies who are aborted not only lose their lives on earth, but lose any possibility of Baptism, through which people inherit Heaven. Deliberately to deny a baby the possibility of birth and Baptism is a terrible thing for sinner and victim, and dreadful in God's sight, Who gives the gift of life.
A Woman who chooses to have a direct abortion denies earthly life to the child in her womb; yet what many forget, or do not realise, is that she denies Baptism for the child, and so deprives the infant of the Beatific vision in Heaven - although we can be certain that the tiny innocent soul is in God's merciful care.
Each new baby is a gift from God, a gift of life, and Christ asks us to treasure each gift and teach others to do the same
This image of a baby is a gift from Christ, as a reminder that human life is a gift from God. Each person conceived is a unique and precious human being: precious in God's sight - and meant to be cherished by those on earth who are his parents.
Christ first became an embryo, in the womb of His mother Mary, before He became a full-grown man. If we keep this in mind, we can both celebrate the wonder of His birth at Christmas, and help other people to treasure the gift of life, not to dispose of it in a brutal manner.
It is important to treat the dead with respect. Yet, no matter what type of death people die, no matter in what way they will be mourned, what counts, when they die, is whether they did so in friendship with God - which means they are on their way to God - or alienated from Him, forever to be without His love and beauty and peace. We all ought to prepare to leave this life.
If we reflect, we will remember that Christ was an innocent victim, in a long-ago earthly life. Innocent victims of abortion today deserve, of us, fervent prayer and brave words, so that Christ, by His almighty power, will banish this barbaric practice.
They do not see our sins; yet the saints in Heaven are in Communion with us. They see our joys, and comfort us by their prayers when we are in pain or dispirited. There is no death, for those who live in Christ: only 'life in Christ'
