It is in God that we can find a loving home or a hearth, with light and warmth. 'Outside' Him is only pain and darkness.

Where a married couple really love one another, and love God, they want to do His Will. He wants them to be faithful to one another, and to refuse to use sinful means of seeking pleasure or avoiding conception. They can be sure, by their faithfulness to God's Will (even if this means abstinence, pain or heartache) that they offer an unmarred expression of love to their Creator and also to one another.

A ranger in a watchtower lives in an oasis of light amidst a bleak, cold, dark landscape. Heaven is so glorious, so different from life in our dark, pain-filled, dangerous world, that it is like that oasis of light amidst the surrounding gloom.

We need a crucifix as a 'template' for our own lives - not to make us love pain or suffering, but so we'll imitate Christ in His patient acceptance of His Father's Will

As if from the 'door' of Heaven, God's graces pour outwards, down the stairway, upon us needy persons below. He graces are like torrents of living flame; it is into the 'Fire' of His love that each of us must step, when we die. The sinless feel no pain, only joy.

In the course of our spiritual life, the 'climate' changes, when someone moves from a 'snowy' area of loneliness and pain to a joyful area of sunshine and harvest - with much joy and fulfilment - before 'rising up' to Heaven.

We imitate Christ, Who painfully climbed a stairway towards Pilate, as we ascend a holy stairway from earth to Heaven, trying by God's grace to remain trusting and faithful to the end.

Christ sees our pain and exhaustion, and comes to us in Holy Communion to offer consolation and reassurance, like a mother stroking a child's hair.

It is right and necessary that we 'children of God' encourage others too to live in union with God through Baptism, and to persevere in love to the end. It is God's wish that when we are purified we enter Heaven as 'fire entering fire'. In God, there will be no more suffering or pain. Christ came down to earth, sharing our life, to offer us a share in His life.

The Godhead is so holy and ineffable and glorious. The glory of the Godhead is like shards of glass or ice: piercing, powerful, and even painful for those unaccustomed to the light; and we can only enter it with and through Jesus Christ our Saviour and Mediator.

Christ wants us to know that we never suffer alone. He knows and sees our every pain and heartache. He invites us to bring everything to Him in prayer, and to find rest in His presence.

The Lord is no more concerned by my distraction at Mass, when I'm tired and in pain, than if I were a sick child on her father's lap, at Mass. He is glad that I am present at Mass out of love for Jesus.

The Lord told me the when I find myself in X-ray departments and operating theatres I must look upon them as my venues for mission, given to me by God, just as certain towns and places were shown to the Apostles, for them to evangelise by their words and example. I can show out the joy of Christ, even in trouble and pain.

The Lord gave me a glimpse of our beautiful village, which He has allowed me to enjoy amidst many years of pain. Then He showed me an even greater beauty on high, 'above' the village. I saw Heaven's glory, and all the Saints who live in God, in joy.

A wise Christian never says: 'This path before me is so difficult or painful that God can't possibly want me to follow it'. A friend of Christ follows where Christ has led him, avoiding an easier route. He steers straight towards the Heavenly Jerusalem.

As I offered my pains in union with Jesus, as penance for my own sins and for those who don't do penance, the Lord showed me that by our penances we give tremendous help to people trapped in sin - who are as if trapped underground.

Christ pointed out the truth that, by my decision to enter into full Communion as a Catholic, I risked pain and persecution, for love of Him - just like many of His followers in His earthly life-time, and every era.

The Lord showed me St. Bernadette, who is blissfully happy in Heaven now, with the other Saints, after her short and painful life. All who love God and sincerely try to live as children of God as she did can hope to spend eternity in bliss, with the Holy Trinity.

Many Catholics today who do not believe in all of the teachings of the Church paint a false picture of the era before the last Council. They say the laity did nothing but 'pray, pay and obey'. They overlook their heroic faith, love and obedience.
