The Lord showed me St. Bernadette, who is blissfully happy in Heaven now, with the other Saints, after her short and painful life. All who love God and sincerely try to live as children of God as she did can hope to spend eternity in bliss, with the Holy Trinity.

A Christian who cannot be bothered to say regular prayers is unlikely to become a great Saint, unless he changes his attitude, rather as a sportsman who cannot run around the track every day, as a minimum, is unlikely to be able to enter the Olympic Games.

Just as Jesus came silently through a locked door to be with His friends in the Upper Room, and to bring them courage and joy, so He comes silently to us when we put our trust in Him, and pray sincerely: and we receive His peace and encouragement.

No one achieves sanctity by looking timidly at the waters of holiness, or trying to remain on the surface. It is the Saints, who believe that the water can support them, and who want to accept Christ's invitation, who plunge in, experience transformation, and persevere. With a special diet, and with courage, training and good instruction they become champion swimmers.

Christ said that a person who professes to love Christ whilst refusing to keep the Commandments or do the Will of Christ in other matters is like a man holding up a door, to prevent someone approaching, whilst still smiling and expressing devotion.

Christ said that many Catholics who should pray every day cannot be bothered to do so: cannot be bothered to turn in regular conversation to the one Who created them, died to save them, sustains them in being, and will one day judge them.

The Lord asked me to look at all the people who were standing beside the balustrade at Lourdes, watching the Rosary Procession. He said: A great deal more prayer and penance would rise up to Heaven from this place if they all joined in, instead of just watching.

When people want to be good but have not yet made firm resolutions or adopted firm principles, they are like climbers on a mountain on which there are large patches of loose shale - small stones. It is only too easy to take a few steps up, and then to slide down again.

Our Lady lives in Heaven, close to Jesus Christ her Divine Son. She longs for us to reach Heaven. When she sees sincere people who do good and try to honour their Creator but who do not know Christ or His Way, it is as though she leans over to pull those people onto the right trajectory for Heaven, at the last moment.

The Lord showed me how brief is earthly life, compared with Eternity. He asked me to tell everyone: This glory is what you are called to. What will you do to attain it? - In other words, are we sincerely preparing to receive the free gift of Eternal Life, and are we worthy to enter Heaven?

As God looks upon the world, He sees how few of us believe in His goodness, how few of us expect answers to prayer, how few of us have prayed with faith in the merits of His Son Jesus, Who died for us. Our faith has not developed because we have not really given our whole lives to God, in regular prayer and works of charity.

When a new convert acts pleasantly, when he has formerly acted against the Church, it can be difficult for other Catholics not to be suspicious about his sincerity. St. Paul, too, was not immediately accepted. Each Catholic, nevertheless, must treat fellow-Catholics - 'new' or old - as brothers and sisters in the family of God.

A person who says, with sincerity, 'Lord, have mercy', allows the Father to lavish upon her the sweetness of His forgiveness and love, whereas the person who refuses to repent shuts his heart to the Father and therefore to the gifts which He would lavish upon him for his consolation and salvation.

The journey to union with God is only a slow journey, if a person is half-hearted in serving Him and fearful of His demands. The one who surrenders completely to God by obedience to Him in everyday life makes swift progress in prayer, as if travelling in a fast vehicle, not on foot.

The Lord asks: Of what value is the praise of a person who says: "O God, I love and praise You, but I insist on going ahead, performing abortions as usual, knowing that You don't want these tiny babies destroyed".

Not speaking, here, of invincible ignorance, the Lord asks: of what value is the praise of a person who declares, "O God, I praise and adore You, but I refuse to enter the Catholic Church, founded by your Son, and refuse to accept the teachings of the Pope and the other Catholic Bishops, who, with one voice, explain Your wishes for the whole world".

People on a pilgrimage are a mixed group: sick and able-bodied, luke-warm or fervent souls, people of every ability and background; yet by being on pilgrimage with sincere hearts, as on a journey, all are brought closer to Heaven.

God invites us to kneel in adoration. The Pope is right to encourage us to offer reverent praise to God the Father, Who is Creator of the whole Universe, greater than the Universe, and awesome in His attributes, and in the beauty of His loving nature. We owe the same praise to Christ His Son, Who is Present in every Catholic Church, and yet often receives praise that is banal, vain, irreverent, frivolous or mundane.
