When abortion is allowed of physically imperfect or malformed babies it sends the message to society that a disabled person can expect to have neither a happy nor a useful life, or that every disability places an intolerable burden on relations, or on society as a whole, and that bodily health is the most important aspect of human existence.
Extreme feminism has led society to deify women, so that their decisions can mean life or death for their unborn children.
The sin of rape is repulsive in God's sight, and rightly punished as a criminal act. Yet the victim can choose to hate or to love. She can hate the rapist, and, out of fear and panic, destroy a child conceived; or she can look with love upon the innocent child, and be merciful, and in sparing his life, support new life and not more violence and death.
If we want to look at the factors by which a civilisation is destroyed, and focus on practical matters, a society which practices routine abortion has few children living, does not replace the generation of elderly people who are dying, and has too few citizens to maintain the running of society.
The truth about victims of miscarriages of justices - pictured here in a gallery - are often not recognised until much later on. Perhaps abortion will one day be seen as the great injustice it is, for the unborn child, instead of a means of 'liberation' for women unhappy about being pregnant.
How few of those young women who think about having an abortion think about the fact that they are pondering the destruction of someone to whom all the family is related: grandparents, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and siblings.
One of the results of freely-available abortion in our society is that living human beings are regarded as part of the rubbish resulting from exciting nights on the town - along with cigarette packets, bottles and syringes.
Something is badly wrong, when in a so-called civilised society, women are welcomed into state-funded hospitals, to have their unborn babies destroyed, helped by doctors and nurses who were trained to heal the sick.
People used to hear a married woman announce her pregnancy; and they replied with "Congratulations". When legal abortion had been introduced, it became necessary to be cautious, knowing that women can find doctors to destroy their unborn babies, even without the approval or consent of the husband, the child's father.
Would it not be strange today if the truth were known, about what happens in many of our hospitals? Picture a sign which declares: "This hospital was opened on Date X, for the care of the sick, and the killing of small unwanted babies."
Something has gone terribly wrong in society, when a teacher can look at her class of infants, and say to herself, this class has been reduced by one fifth, because mothers chose to have the children killed, rather than letting them develop normally and enjoy the life God planned for them.
When abortion is easily available, it changes a society, because a barbaric act has come to be seen by a majority as normal, even admirable behaviour. Doctors and the nurses who assist are involved in killing and discarding unwanted babies, as surely as if they were sweeping them away, though they once trained to heal, not to harm.
The Lord wants everyone to know that abortion is loathsome, in His sight. If only one unborn baby were deliberately swept away, denied life, and denied the possibility of Baptism, it would be a tragedy. But tens of thousands are killed every few weeks, in England, though each baby is a real, living person with an immortal soul.
Just as laws made by God control the movements of the planets, so the laws of natural law - from God - can guide us in the activities of our lives. We bring disaster upon ourselves if we try to ignore the natural law, and the Commandments, and we contribute to the destruction and decay of a whole society.
Without strong moral foundations, and respect for human life from conception to natural death, society is gradually torn apart
Wherever Catholics live out their faith with goodness and conviction, they have an effect upon their culture, as Catholics have since the earliest times. The Bishops hand on the truth from Jesus Christ, people are forgiven and transformed, freed from superstition, men and women are equal in marriage, the sick are cherished and not rejected, prisoners receive justice, little girls are educated, children are valued, even the unborn, the arts flourish - art, architecture, music and scholarship - and the Saints set an unparalleled example of goodness, in all sorts of ways.
We have the Pope to guide us on modern problems as well as well-known evils. Society is being damaged, as abortion becomes more and more commonplace, just as scientists are confirming what God has told the world through His prophets, His Son, and His Church, for millennia, that each human being, however tiny, is a unique individual. Each deserves to live all the life that has been given, from conception, in the manner decreed by Almighty God.
We must expect to meet criticism, especially about chastity. Critics of Christians and Christianity call good people 'prudish' or old-fashioned, when care is taken to wear modest clothing, to lead chaste lives, and to avoid indecent films and art displays, and to protest at public nudity. This must not deter Christians from keeping the Commandments, and striving to be 'as pure as Christ'.
Many girls and women have been so heavily influenced as to be almost blameless. They have heard evil propositions for decades, from campaigners who speak of a "woman's right to choose", about abortion. Yet no-one has the right to dismember or poison another human being, no matter how tiny. It is an outrage that abortion is permitted.
When someone is sentenced to death, people usually say, "What evil has he done?" None of the little babies put to death in the womb is guilty of crime, or personal sin, but only of being unwanted. So they are dismembered or poisoned, and thrown away, in what was once a civilised society.
