To live on earth is to be surrounded by disasters, and to be called to undergo our own trials, hence the importance of knowing that we are all brothers and sisters, all in need, all able to help one another.

If we put our trust in Christ our Saviour, even in difficulties, it's as if we are speeding ahead on a clear road to holiness. If we try to do our own will, not God's, we are bound to make unwise decisions, steer badly, get into trouble, and even damage other lives.

Many of Christ's brave friends have suffered mockery, imprisonment and death, in order to remain faithful to the teachings of His Church, and out of love for Him.

Sometimes our trials do not go away quickly. We can picture ourselves as like a log, carried along by the current, even if it sometimes bumps into the river-bank, or seems to make little progress.

Christ wants us to know that we never suffer alone. He knows and sees our every pain and heartache. He invites us to bring everything to Him in prayer, and to find rest in His presence.
