There are times when we can avoid trouble and difficulty, and confront injustice; but there are other times when it is useless to protest, and we do best to imitate Jesus in His acceptance of His Father's plan, in total trust and surrender, confident the God can bring good out of evil.

Our Blessed Lady had to cope with the apparent burial of all her hopes, as her beloved son was placed in the tomb. But we, like her, must trust in God's promises, that good will eventually, definitively, defeat evil.

It is important that when we pray for other people, we pray with confidence and hope. God has foreseen everything that will ever happen. He has already taken account of our prayers, in His plans for souls, and our world. We should trust that when we ask, He helps.

Just as Our Blessed Lady persevered in hope, in the worst of all times, when her beloved son was dead, so must we all persevere in trust in God, even when our lives seem to be heading for disaster.

On our journey to Heaven, Catholics trust in the navigator and the pilot (God) and are grateful for regular food (the sacraments). They try not to complain or demand weather reports or arrival times, but try to be helpful and kind to people around them.

A person who is always anxious about his state of soul and about the likelihood of going to Heaven is like a man on holiday who charges around the aircraft, enquiring anxiously about the weather, and the time of arrival. It is best to rely on the navigator and pilot.

Some of the 'roads' we travel in the Lord's service seem unending; yet we need to be prepared for sudden surprises and changes which He has arranged for us. It's as if we travel through mile upon mile of forest, then are awestruck when the Grand Canyon comes into view.

Christ is touched to the heart by every sign of devotion to Him in His Passion, which He endured out of love for us all. He wants us to pray to Him, even if the image in our hearts or the knowledge in our hearts is not perfectly accurate. The Sacred Liturgy is supremely important for prayer, but we should encourage everyone, of every faith, to trust in God and to turn to Him in prayer.

Christ spoke at the Consecration of the wine, saying "I shed My Blood for them". He was speaking of the people in the Church who distrust His message and lead others astray, and show little appreciation of what Christ has done for us by His Death and Resurrection. They rarely mention these holy Mysteries.

God the Father is pleased when we turn to Him, and ask in the name of His Son for the good things we need or desire. What child does not approach a good father, speaking frankly about her wishes? We too, should trust God, as His children.

The teachings of the Holy Scriptures and of the Church today are true and trustworthy.

Rich and poor, sick and well, can receive faith. All who put their trust in Jesus and His saving work and come 'into the light' by membership of His Church can be confident that the prayers they offer through and with Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit, will be heard and answered.

We might sometimes question the wisdom of surrendering to God's Will, when we imagine our own plans are good. Yet His plan for us is always best: so great, eventually, that it's as if, in following His Will, we have accepted a life with a King in His Coronation Coach, even when we had not expected such goodness.

A wise Christian never says: 'This path before me is so difficult or painful that God can't possibly want me to follow it'. A friend of Christ follows where Christ has led him, avoiding an easier route. He steers straight towards the Heavenly Jerusalem.

And most mothers of priests have provided encouragement in the Catholic Faith, and an example of trust in God.
